New York City History Day

The Frederick A.O. Schwarz Education Center invites your students to participate in New York City History Day. The 30th Annual New York City History Day was held on Sunday, March 1, 2020. To see a list of student winners, visit mcny.org/historyday

New York City History Day is an education program that engages students in grades 6-12 in the discovery and interpretation of historical topics. By participating in History Day, students can research topics related to the annual theme and can express themselves creatively through various formats such as exhibit boards, documentaries, websites, papers, and performances.

Fee: $10 per student registration (not per entry) and is due by Friday, February 28. Students, please check with your teachers to coordinate payment.

How to pay your students' registration fees

  1. If you are a teacher AND judge, you must create TWO separate accounts. Make sure to connect your students to your teacher account and pay for them while logged into your teacher account. 
  2. After your students have registered (remind them to link their accounts to you), log into your teacher account.
  3. Click "Store" at the top of the screen.
  4. Select your students.
  5. Click "Add selected fees to cart" at bottom of page.
  6. Click "Check Out & Pay" at top of page.
  7. All payments must be made by credit card through the National History Day registration portal. If you must pay by purchase order, choose "Generate Invoice" after adding your student fees to your cart. Submit that invoice to your school or payment organization's finance department to create a purchase order and cut a check. The Museum of the City of New York is a New York City Department of Education vendor (vendor number MUS015).

New York City History Day Judge Registration

Thank you for your interest in judging New York City History Day! This year's theme is Breaking Barriers in History. The 2020 contest has ended; please reach out to nychistoryday@mcny.org if you are interested in learning more and judging at the 31st Annual New York City History Day in 2021. 

How to Register as a History Day Judge

  1. At right, under the "Create Account" heading, judges will enter their name and email address and click the “Create Account” button to begin registration. 
  2. When asked for registrant type (student, teacher, judge, volunteer, staff), judges will select “Judge”. 
  3. Judges will then complete personal contact information and will create a password. 
  4. Judges will then be prompted to answer additional questions, including your preferences for which project categories you are most interested in judging.  
  5. Click “Save and Continue” button. 
  6. Judges will see a confirmation screen, from here judges can click the “Login” button in the upper right-hand corner to login to their account.
